This November 6-15, you’re invited to join us for a life-changing trip to Sierra Leone. You’ll have the opportunity to witness firsthand the amazing work being done to create communities marked by love and dignity for those living with disabilities. Join this amazing experience. In addition, the trip will include opportunities to participate in a mini Theology of Disability course and a spiritual formation retreat — helping you grow deeper in your faith while connecting with God’s heart for people with disabilities. 1. Who is this trip for?

This trip is designed for donors, partners, and friends of Accessible Hope International who want to:

  • Witness the impact of God’s work among the nations firsthand.

  • Build relationships with diverse people.

  • Engage in personal and spiritual growth.

  • Work with God on his mission to reconcile all things to himself (Col. 1:19-20)

2. When is the trip?

The vision trip will take place from November 6–15, 2025, including travel days.

3. What is the cost?

The estimated cost is $4500 per person, which includes airfare, lodging, meals, in-country transportation, and program activities. Travel insurance, visa fees, immunizations, and personal expenses are not included.

4. What is the itinerary for the trip?

Here is a sample itinerary: 

Day 1: Thursday, November 6

  • Depart from your local airport

  • Overnight flight, arriving in Brussels, Belgium.

Day 2: Friday, November 7

  • Depart Brussels and arrive at Lungi International Airport in Freetown in the early evening.

  • Travel to Shalom Retreat Centre in Makeni (approx 2.5-hour drive)

  • Light dinner and settling in

Day 3: Saturday, November 8

  • Orientation

  • Meet the Women of Hope staff

  • Service Project

Day 4: Sunday, November 9

  • Church service in a local church

  • Sabbath Day

Day 5: Monday, November 10

  • Experience a Made in God’s Image workshop taught by local leaders to get a biblical view of disability

  • Hear testimonies from women with disabilities of how God has worked in their lives

Day 6: Tuesday, November 11 

  • Immersion Day - learn first-hand what a day in the life of a person with disabilities in Sierra Leone is like.

Day 7: Wednesday, November 12

  • Formation Day - an opportunity to process what you’ve learned and seen and integrate that into your own spiritual framework

Day 8: Thursday, November 13

  • Service Project

  • Travel to outlying service location (village setting)

Day 9: Friday, November 14

  • Debrief with local leaders and discuss next steps

  • Return to Lungi Airport and depart for Brussels

Day 10: Saturday, November 15

  • Evening - Arrive home, carrying powerful stories of transformation and hope.

5. What will my accommodations be like?

You will be staying at the Shalom Retreat Centre in Makeni, a peaceful and welcoming space designed for rest and spiritual renewal. The retreat center features eight comfortable, self-contained bedrooms, each accommodating two people. The rooms are equipped with ceiling fans and AC may be available, depending on the electricity situation. Hot water is available in the showers. 

The retreat space includes spacious gathering and eating areas and a large outdoor porch, providing a comfortable setting for team gatherings, reflection, and fellowship. Double occupancy is standard, but single rooms may be available for an additional cost. Sacred spaces, such as a prayer labyrinth and prayer hut, are also available on-site and the compound is walled and secure, providing a serene space with a plethora of flowers, plants, and bird life.

6. Is it safe to travel to Sierra Leone?

Safety is a top priority. While Sierra Leone is a developing country, we take necessary precautions, including staying in secure accommodations, traveling with experienced local guides, and following all recommended health and safety protocols. We will also provide guidance on vaccinations, travel insurance, and cultural expectations.

7. What is the process to participate?

  1. Complete the Trip Application & Deposit – Submit your full application along with a $100 non-refundable application fee by April 15, 2025 to express your interest.

  2. Team Selection – The Accessible Hope International staff will review applications and finalize the team by May 15, 2025. Selected participants will receive confirmation and next steps.

  3. Payment Schedule:

    • 50% of the trip cost is due by July 31, 2025.

    • Final payment is due by September 30, 2025.

  4. Pre-Trip Preparation – Participants will receive training materials, attend 2 virtual orientation meetings, and complete any required paperwork, vaccinations, and visa applications.

  5. Travel & Experience – Depart for Sierra Leone on November 6, 2025, for an unforgettable 10-day journey.

  6. Post-Trip Expectations - How you choose to carry your experience forward will largely be between you and God, but we will have one post-trip virtual meeting to debrief the experience and invite participants into potential engagement opportunities to put their transformational journey into action.

8. Do I need a visa or vaccinations?

Yes, a visa for Sierra Leone is required and may be obtained before travel or on arrival at the airport. Certain vaccinations, including yellow fever, may also be required. We will provide guidance on all necessary travel health preparations.

9. How many people can go?

We are limiting this trip to 8-10 participants to ensure a meaningful and personal experience.
