A Prayer For October
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
Lord, you are such a good Creator. We are amazed at your skill and purpose, holding all things together with your sustaining power and perfect control. Thank you for this picture you have given us through these words in John 15; a simple, yet profound example of our interconnected relationship with Christ and the harvest of that connection. Jesus, you are the vine, and how often we forget where our source of life and direction is found. In you we have all that we need. You are the vine, our source of life and purpose. Give us hearts that recognize your goodness and the opportunities you give us each day to grow in our relationship with you. Teach us how to abide in you, stilling ourselves before you in order to listen to your voice, feeding on your Word, reflecting on your promises and sharing your truth, love and hope to a desperate world. You alone are the source of all we need for life & flourishing.
God, we repent of our selfishness, our love for control, and our struggle to surrender to your ways. Show us how to abide. Quiet us, so we can hear your voice. Prune our lives of everything that hinders our growth in grace and conformity to the image of your Son. Change our hearts and give us a desire to feed on your Word so we can live in light of your promises. God, we pray for the flourishing of all people, but especially for those living with a disability. We pray for those who are connected to Christ, the true vine, that they would grow and thrive, living out of the blessing that comes from being in relationship with you. We pray for connection with other believers and that their giftings would be recognized & used within your Church & in the greater community for your glory and the advancement of your Kingdom.
Holy Spirit, we pray for those who are living in the pain of broken connection, feeling isolated and forgotten.We pray for healing and restoration.Show your unfailing love to each and every person who is in need of your comforting presence. Spirit, we pray you would empower the ministry of our Global Hope Partners in the lives of many, to share the hope and the source of abundant life-connection with you. Just as a thriving grape vine with healthy branches produces much fruit, we pray that your global Church, made up of people of all abilities, will manifest fruitful lives for your Kingdom and glory. Through Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.
