The Artists: Mabinty and Memuna

Mabinty is a mother of three and has polio. She is passionate about becoming one of our newest members of the fair trade cooperative and looks forward to being able to send her children to school with the income from her ornaments.

Memuna is a graduate from Women of Hope's skills ornament-making class. She enjoys being able to provide for her husband and three children by working in the cooperative. Memuna has a number of trade skills, however, mobility is a challenge due to the effects of polio.

Women of Hope has created a space for women with disabilities to work in a safe, clean, nurturing environment, offering them the opportunity to work together, building community and relationship. This ensures that the women are able to work independently toward their own sustainable future without our assistance.

To produce their creative works, the women work in small teams (known as guilds): sharing the work and the profit.
